About Gen Thrift

Every piece I ever helped put on a runway had already lived a life before it reached that room. A bolt of fabric someone wove, a pattern that someone drafted and redrafted until it hung perfectly, hands that pressed every seam flat. That's what I fell in love with backstage at Saks, not the finished look, but the story sewn into how it got there. 15+ years later, that's still the thing I care about the most. Not whether something is new, but whether it has a story at all.

That's the whole idea behind Gen Thrift, a journal of resale culture. A secondhand blazer isn't just cheaper than a new one, it has already proven itself. Someone chose it once already, wore it into their life, and let it go when the time felt right. When you buy it, you're not starting a story from nothing, you are picking up a thread that's already written a chapter or two. That's the kind of richness that fast fashion can't manufacture at any price. A dress built in three days doesn't have anywhere near enough time to become anything.

I think about it the way I used to think about a runway archive, every piece in a vintage seller's rack is a small artifact of someone else's taste, a decade, a mood, a vibe. My job now is the same job I've always had, finding the pieces worth passing on, and putting them in front of people who will actually give them a second life instead of a second week. That's what you will find here. The vendors doing this work well, the markets that bring it to life in person, and an honest look at where the industry is headed.
